Our journey to find the Hoppiest Place on Earth landed us at the craft beer brewery of Fall Brewing Company., in the North Park area of San Diego, CA. Recently, I’ve began to see more of these taps popping around town, and received a good tip from someone at Green Flash Brewing Company that this place was legit, and worth checking out. Wow. They were right!

This unfiltered kellerbier is naturally carbonated, and hands down the very best pilsner that I have ever had in the U.S.

Named after the old skating idea that you can’t be afraid to fall…it’s go big, or go home attitude, this place really knocks it out of the park. It is located just off of Adams Avenue on 30th Street, not too far from the main hub of bars and breweries in the area. Upon walking into the garage type of setup, it was clear from the get-to that this was a bit of a punk rocker vibe, with a lot of colorful artwork against the walls, and some rocking music playing overhead. To the right are about six or seven good sized brew tanks, and a wooden barrels of brewing beer. We took a seat and were greeted by a friendly beer tender who quickly went over the beers. I’ve been looking for a good smoked lager ever since having one at Rip Current about a month ago, so I went for the Mittens. The chalk board overhead describes it as a smoked schwarzbier collaboration between Cosimo and Monkey Paw. It poured a dark, chocolaty color and definitely had a nice bit of smoked bite to it, without being overbearing. A really solid beer that I was very pleased with.

However, the beer that really blew me away was their Plenty for Now pilsner! I have been on a major quest to find a really good pilsner somewhere in the United States, and although I’ve had some pretty solid ones, with Firestone’s Pivo Pils being one of the better ones I’ve found, I’ve mostly struck out on something that would really blow me away. That is until today! This unfiltered kellerbier is naturally carbonated, and  is hands down the very best pilsner that I have ever had in the U.S. One sip of it immediately transported me to Germany and the Czech Republic. Coming in at 4.8% abv, this is brew that you can drink easily, and big time flavor and balance. I can already tell that I will be craving this beer for some time to come, and will definitely be getting back to the brewery to have some more.

Really loved this brewery, and can’t say enough great things about it. Friendly people, nice layout, really fantastic beers, and no flashing television as distractions. This is simply a great place to go mingle, knock back a beer or two, and enjoy the day. Well done, Fall Brewing Company! Today, you were without a doubt the The Hoppiest Place on Earth! Beer Hops
